Barton Mines is a family owned business that has produced the world's highest quality garnet abrasives for over 5 generations. Founded in 1878 to mine and mill garnet for the sand paper industry, Barton Garnet quickly became the World Standard for sandpaper applications. Over the years, Barton has continued to develop new products, markets and applications. On the way we have created and maintained a strong commitment to quality, performance and service.

Today, Barton produces garnet abrasive products for many diverse applications such as waterjet cutting, sand blasting, bonded and coated abrasives and specialty lapping and grinding medias. We own and operate mining and milling operations in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.

Adirondack Operations
The Adirondack Operations started producing garnet abrasives in 1878 and continues to mine and mill garnet from a unique crystalline "Hard Rock" deposit. A full range of products for waterjet cutting, coated and bonded abrasives and specialty lapping are all produced at this facility. This facility operates year round to meet the demand for quality, high performance garnet abrasives.

Mining and Concentration
Mining pit
The crystalline hard rock ore is mined from an open pit and crushed prior to the separation process. A large, state of the art concentrate mill utilizes multiple stage separation techniques to produce a high purity, high quality feed stock for the finish grade mills.

Finished Goods

The concentrate is then transferred to the finished goods mill where the product is graded, treated and packaged. All Barton abrasives are produced to tight quality specifications and guaranteed to meet customer satisfaction.

Administration

Glens Falls Administration Building The Sales, Logistics and Accounting groups are based in our offices in Glens Falls, NY.

The company transformed a 19th century building into a visionary green headquarters, slated for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification. This process is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings.

The Barton headquarters is a candidate for LEED gold certification, under a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org) using points assigned in categories for: energy efficiency and reduced energy use; water use reduction and water efficiency; reuse of existing resources to avoid new consumption; and maintaining environmental quality for occupants and neighbors.

The Barton building far exceeds minimum LEED requirements in many categories including water conservation, indoor air quality, renewable energy, and recycling.
