Blast Abrasives

World-Class Garnet Blasting Abrasives

Barton garnet blast abrasive offers high productivity with lower cost

Barton supplies high-performance garnet abrasives for a wide variety of blasting applications. The blast media from Barton comes in a variety of grades from Coarse through Fine to serve any industrial need.

Barton’s line of blasting abrasives:

Barton 36 CG – Coarse

Barton 30×40 – Intermediate

Barton 30×60 PLUS – Medium

Barton 80 HPA – Medium Fine

Barton 100 HPA – Fine

Higher Productivity, Lower Costs

Garnet abrasives are harder, heavier and more durable than other blasting abrasives. Barton garnet abrasives cut faster and recycle efficiently, significantly increasing productivity while reducing consumption of the abrasive media as well as the costs to handle it, collect it and dispose of it.

Superior Surface Quality

Blasting with Barton garnet abrasives produces a super clean surface with a uniform profile that is virtually free of particle embedment. A clean surface and uniform profile result in better coating adhesion and longer coating life.

Low Dusting, Safe to Use

Barton garnet is a 100% natural, inert mineral containing <1% free silica and no heavy metals. Our garnet poses little to no health or environmental risks. Garnet produces less dust than many other blasting abrasives, resulting in improved operator visibility, less disruption to adjoining work areas, and safer working conditions. Our garnet abrasives meet all current industry standards and are certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for permissible dry outdoor blasting.

Barton 36 CG – Coarse

  • Used to remove thick coatings and marine fouling (20 – 50 mils) and rust
  • Profile: SSPC-AB 1, Grade 4, Class A
  • Typically produces a 3.5 – 4.5 mil profile on steel surfaces

Barton 30×40 – Intermediate

  • Used to remove heavier coatings (up to 40 mils) and rust while controlling profile
  • Profile: SSPC-AB 1, Grade 3 and Grade 4, Class A
  • Typically produces a 2.5 – 4.0 mil profile on steel surfaces

Barton 30×60 PLUS – Medium

  • “Workhorse” grade used for new steel and maintenance work on coatings up to 20 mils
  • Profile: SSPC-AB 1, Grade 3 and Grade 4, Class A
  • Typically produces a 2.5 – 3.5 mil profile on steel surfaces

Barton 80 HPA – Medium Fine

  • Used on aluminum and other sensitive substrates
  • The preferred abrasive for most vapor-blasting applications
  • Profile: SSPC-AB 1, Grade 3, Class A
  • Typically produces a 1.8 – 2.5 mil profile on steel surfaces

Barton 100 HPA – Fine

  • Used on aluminum, fiberglass and for removal of rust and mill scale on new steel
  • An excellent low-dusting replacement for staurolite
  • Profile: SSPC-AB 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3, Class A
  • Typically produces a 1.5 – 2.0 mil profile on steel surfaces

Barton blasting abrasives meet the current industry standards including US Navy MIL-A-22262B(SH) and SSPC-AB 1. All grades are QPL listed and CARB certified.

Profile ranges cited are typical for dry-blasting applications at usual pressures (90-100 PSI). The substrate, air pressure and other factors will impact the actual profile achieved. The proper grade of Barton garnet abrasive can best be selected based on test results conducted under actual field conditions.
