History and Products
Barton Mines, a privately held corporation, was founded in 1878 to mine a unique hard rock garnet deposit in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. Barton garnet is a mixture of almandite and pyrope garnet, which allows us to produce a high quality technical grade abrasive. Barton Mines is the world's largest supplier of industrial garnet grains and powders.
In the earliest years of operation, the Gore Mountain mine produced garnet only for sandpaper applications. Today, Barton Mines supplies garnet for many diverse applications. These include abrasive water jet cutting; specialty and technical blasting; sandpaper to finish wood, leather, hard rubber, felt and plastics; scratch free lapping of semi-conductor materials; optical and ophthalmic grinding; silicon/germanium lapping for computer memory disks; non-ferrous metallic grinding, large glass grinding; and mixed media water filtration.
Organization
As an organization, Barton Mines' primary objectives are satisfying the needs of the customer, recognizing and rewarding the contributions of hard working individual employees, acting responsibly within our community while simultaneously operating as efficiently and profitably as possible.
Barton Mines strongly believes that the relationship between managers and employees is based on two-way communication. Employees are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to discuss any issue with their manager.
