Barton was the first abrasive company to commit resources and engineering effort to produce modern day waterjet abrasives. Starting in 1983, Barton worked closely with the leading equipment manufacturers to develop the highest performing and most cost-effective products possible. Barton remains the industry leader in product development, performance, and cost effectiveness.

Today, Barton produces a family of waterjet abrasives to cover the broad array of modern applications.

HPX™ - High Performance Crystalline Waterjet Abrasives
(HPX_DataSheet09.pdf)
MeshProduced from Barton's crystalline garnet deposit in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, HPX products set the standard for performance and cost-effective cutting. Superior cutting speeds, surface finish and efficiency make this the preferred abrasive for precision waterjet operations around the world.

Superior Abrasive Traits- HPX garnet grains have a unique structure that causes them to fracture along crystal cleavage lines. This fracturing produces the very sharp edges that enable HPX to outperform other waterjet abrasives.

Faster Cutting - Because of these sharper, more angular edges, HPX grains cut faster than other waterjet abrasives.

Better Edge Quality - HPX waterjet abrasives produce a better edge quality and can be used in demanding applications where other waterjet abrasives fall short.

Cleaner (Less Dust) - HPX waterjet abrasives have high garnet purity and very low dust levels. This translates to less downtime due to clogged nozzles or erratic abrasive feed and therefore a more cost-efficient operation. A cleaner abrasive also results in a cleaner waste product that is easier to move and recycle.

Barton offers 8 grades of HPX waterjet abrasives, listed here, from the coarsest to the finest. All Barton waterjet products are manufactured under tight QA/QC controls and are guaranteed to meet our high standards.

50 HPX™
  • Offers the most powerful cutting performance and speed
  • Used when cutting speed is more important than edge quality
  • Materials: thick stainless steel, titanium and stone
65 HPX™
  • The newest addition to Barton's family of waterjet abrasives
  • Combines the cutting power of 50 HPX with the edge quality of 80 HPX
  • Materials: thick materials where surface finish is important
80 HPX™
  • Provides the greatest versatility for a wide variety of applications
  • Offers fast cutting speed and good edge quality
  • Used by operators that value the flexibility of one abrasive for a wide variety of applications
  • Industries: any precision waterjet operation
  • Materials: wide variety, including all metals, composites, ceramics and stone.
85 HPX™
  • Offers the cutting power of 80 HPX with superior edge quality
  • Used on thin to medium thickness materials where high speed and exceptional edge quality are required
  • Materials: wide variety, including all metals, composites, ceramics, and stone
120 HPX™
  • Offers superior edge quality and cutting speed
  • Used for net shape cutting applications to eliminate secondary finishing
  • Materials: steel, aluminum, glass, ceramics, laminates, composites and other brittle materials
150 HPX™, 220 HPX™ and 230 HPX™
  • Specialty grades for applications with very demanding, fine edge requirements
  • Used when small kerf is desired
  • Industries: electronics, communications and precious metals
  • Materials: composites, printed circuit boards and fiber optic cables
HPA™ - High Performance Waterjet Abrasives
(HPA_DataSheet09.pdf)
SampleHPA abrasives combine excellent cutting performance with outstanding economy. They are ideal for a host of applications that do not require the extra high-performance provided by our HPX crystalline garnet abrasives. Like all waterjet abrasives sold by Barton, they are manufactured under tight QC/QA controls and are guaranteed to meet our high standards.

Barton offers several grades of HPA waterjet abrasives. Our three most popular grades are listed below.

60 HPA™
  • Our most aggressive HPA product; used when cutting speed is of primary importance.
80 HPA™
  • A general purpose abrasive that provides good edge quality and solid cutting performance. May be used in virtually any precision waterjet operation

100 HPA™
  • A finely graded product offering high precision and a narrow kerf
  • Used for thin-stock applications
Construction Grade (CG)

CG waterjet abrasives are coarse, ultra-aggressive products used for mobile cutting and other specialty applications. Available in three grades, CG products are designed to provide maximum performance and minimum consumption.

16 - The coarsest, most aggressive construction grade product. Often used to cut very thick, reinforced concrete and thick steel.
1636 - A broadly distributed hybrid grade that offers increased versatility.
36 - The workhorse of the CG line, 36CG provides excellent cutting performance; a proven performer in the petro-chemical and nuclear power industries, as well as, in general industry.
