Best Practices for Managing Waterjet Abrasive

Efficient waterjet cutting isn’t just about the cutting head and the pump. Most people in the fabricating industry have a good idea of how waterjets work. While the equipment, particularly the cutting heads and high-pressure pumps, typically dominate most conversations about waterjets, it’s the consumable—the garnet—that does the actual cutting. Read the latest issue of The Fabricator in which Barton’s Joe Morris and Stephen Podnorszki discuss the importance of the abrasive in your waterjet operation and how better knowledge can lead to better control and more consistent cutting results. FF Journal features Penn Stainless Products Inc and their use of Adirondack 50 HPX

An ultrahigh-pressure stream of water becomes a highly efficient and powerful cutting tool when garnet sand is mixed into the water stream and passed through the mixing tube on a waterjet cutting machine. Garnet sand is the lifeblood of abrasive waterjet cutting. But not all garnet is equal. That’s the opinion of Brian Yeakel, plant manager at Penn Stainless Products Inc. in Quakertown, PA. The family-owned service center, founded in 1979, exclusively cuts with Adirondack 50 HPX garnet produced by Barton International in Glens Falls, New York. Click here to read the full article.
