Garnet Abrasive Blasting Applications

Here are a few of the many surface preparation applications for BARTON garnet blasting abrasives

Ship Building and Repair

BARTON garnet abrasives are used extensively at shipyards throughout North America for new construction as well as refit and repair to remove coatings, tightly adherent mill scale, or rust. Our garnet blast media enables precise control of feathering when blasting weld seams and construction damage. Low dust levels improve working conditions and productivity in tanks, voids and confined spaces. Proven shipyard applications include: hulls, superstructures, weapons systems, including the U.S. Navy Vertical Launch Systems (VLS), all types of exterior projects and internal tanks.

Industrial Painting Contractors

Facility maintenance, turnaround jobs, tank projects and blast-room work are just a few of the applications where BARTON’s garnet abrasives help contractors increase productivity, reduce consumption and shorten the cleanup process.

Applications include tanks, offshore platforms, pipe racks and pipeline projects. High productivity rates with BARTON garnet speed completion of time-sensitive projects and reduce costly plant downtime.

Blast Rooms/Heavy Equipment Repair

Our non-ferrous garnet abrasives are used in blast-room applications where aluminum surfaces, sensitive substrates or installed electromagnetic components preclude the use of steel grit or steel shot. Typical heavy equipment applications of BARTON garnet abrasives involve the overhaul of rail cars, construction and military vehicles.

Powder Coating

Powder coaters value the high-quality surface finish and uniform profile created by BARTON garnet. High durability allows for several reuses of the abrasives in blast-room applications.

Vapor/Wet Abrasive Blasting

Vapor abrasive blasting equipment is designed to work most efficiently with garnet abrasives.

BARTON garnet abrasives meet current industry standards, including U.S. Navy MIL-A-22262B(SH) and SSPC-AB 1 (Type 1, Class A). Our blast media grades are QPL listed and CARB certified.
